henry rollins, july 30th @ paradiso
Imagine a packed paradiso and a guy in a plain black t-shirt and pants just by himslef on stage with a mic. Imagine the early eighties one of the smallest squater venues in town a dark black hole playing black flag with a young an ever energetic frontman singin’ or better said screaming and yelling ‘we er going to rise above all’. And he the frontman rose above all as a multi talented artist: musician, song writer, movie star, world traveller, writer and story teller. The black flag frontman Henry Rollins was on a roll the 30th of july at Paradiso. A non-stop three hour eruption of words. Fascinating and amazing. Henry’s one of my heroes.

Some weird bits and pieces that are still on my mind..
KELOWNA: at the very beginning of his show he started about his adventures with the cops …. interrogated by the police cause some chick in some shitty small town called san where ever told the police that I, Henry offended her with my words and sometimes they come out strong, maybe I said something unharmful to a crazy chick one day when ever where ever, I do talk to people, can you believe that, can you believe that, well that day I was not even close to san small town, and I was alone in … where was I, I was in Kelowna <one girl in the audience screamed out loud Yeeeeaaaaahhhh!!! when he mentioned K-town and out of the 1.500 I know this K-girl pretty well> … but hell Kelowna no alibi if you’re alone in Kelowna in your own uvitarian vehicle listening to some weird music …
BROKEN NOSE: of course Henry told some about his über wild and violent black flag period … when I was young, jumping, shaking my head and yelling rise above all I got dragged into the audience and all in a sudden a hard punch landed right in the middle of my face and some things cracked – yes it was my nose … the lesson I learned was that I had to hit back harder and so Henry did
AJ WESTON: henry got called by kurt sutter to play in sons of anarchy kurt had this great idea for me being this white trash nazi aj weston … had to think about that but in the end I said yes I’ll be aj … well aj got kicked the shit out of him by the sons and the thing is in real life it is once and with a camera you got beaten up over and over again cause it has to look nice … and you know I’m getting older so it takes a while to physically recover … <have to see the sons of anarchy – anyone who can help out on this?> … this week by accident I also saw Henry starring in the movie Heat (Pacino, De Niro) being the body guard of the bad guy (type casted again) and he got punched of course in the face flying through a window – poor Henry
JUDGING: if you are famous you get asked for all kinds of things and Henry got asked for a drag racing jury not the pumped up cars but the drags with the wiener ducktaped to the back and look like a hot chick… and Henry got turned on by one of the cars and the rest of the story we don’t want to know Henry
ULTIMATE FACIAL EXPRESSION: I don’t know why but Henry started talking about what the side effects are of getting older – I think in relation to the wannabe hot chick – anyway he explained us how he could blow someone off his bike when he was young and ferocious and now being almost fifty it drips down like the last bits out of a yoghurt carton while looking like an arm wrestling over the top sylvester stallone with the hanging lip wrooaaaagh
