Welcome to the seventeenth post in a weekly series on new Canadian music! This week it is pop rock with a review of Rah Rah’s third album ‘The Poet’s Dead’.
Rah Rah is a six, or sometimes septet, from Regina Saskatchewan. Saskatchewan you say? Yes, it goes British Columbia, Alberta and then you get glorious Saskatchewan. You may be thinking these weekly series are in geographical order but I will have to disappoint as that would be too easy. Anyways, back to the music, Rah Rah is a whole lot of musicians with a nice mix of instruments accordion, bass, keys, tambourine, violin, drums and crunchy guitars. The fun thing about ‘The Poet’s Dead’ is the rotation of the female/male or together lead vocals, giving each song its own edge. Nothing wrong with some full on radio rock pop guitar prairie road trip music. Indiefuzz favourites are album opener ‘Art & A Wife’, the SK mirror ‘Prairie Girl’ and violin ‘Saint’.
In Canada and the US the album is out, though I’m not sure about the Euro release date I am sure it is coming your way soon.
