The Dirty Nil – Summer Mix-Tape

Welcome to the fourth post in a weekly series on new Canadian music ! This week is punk rock … and roll with a punchy review of The Dirty Nil’s 7″ vinyl Summer Mix-Tape.

The three member band from Dundas Ontario – where the hell is that ? Canada Eh! The Dirty Nil plays loud, LOUD rock and roll. Distorted, out of control, and in your face. The punks, as Clint would say, are Kyle Fisher hammering the drums, Dave Nardi working the bass and frontman Luke Bentham fuzzing up his guitar and howling his way out…where ever that may be ?!

But it is what The Dirty Nil say about themselves that captures the very essence of ‘being Canadian’. “The Dirty Nil makes music for turntables and hi-fi’s – music for dive bars and house parties – for beer drinking and joint smoking – for road trips and barbecues – for fighting and yelling and shouting and singing and screaming and howling – for sweating and bleeding – trying and failing and trying again anyways. Gravel-in-your guts, spit-in-your-eye, staggering, bloodthirsty rock and roll !” Yeah baby, it’s totally Canadian !!!!

Go check out The Dirty Nil bandcamp page for the ‘free’ download of the Summer Mix-Tape before it is gone. You can also just listen first here.

Watch the video of Fuckin’ Up Young – a pool party in you parents living room, an ode to wayward youth. It says it all.
